Impact of text message reminders on voter turnout in county and municipal elections to be studied

In connection with the 2025 county and municipal elections, the Ministry of Justice and the Prime Minister's Office sent text messages to eligible voters reminding them of the elections. The recipients were selected by random sampling. Messages were sent as part of a scientific research project that aims to examine the impact of text message reminders on voter turnout in Finland. The project is funded by the Strategic Research Council of the Research Council of Finland, and a research team of the University of Turku, led by Professor Janne Tukiainen, is responsible for analysing the research data. The results will be published once the project has been completed. Previously, the impact of text message reminders on voter turnout has been studied in connection with the 2023 parliamentary elections and the 2022 county elections.
