Electoral rights of Finnish citizens in municipal and local elections of other states

Finnish citizens residing in another EU Member State, Iceland and Norway are, as a rule, eligible to vote and stand as candidates in municipal and local elections in their country of residence under the same conditions as the citizens of that country. The legislation of EU Member States in this respect is based on the EU Directive on the right to vote and to stand as a candidate in municipal elections (94/80/EC).

The right to vote and stand as a candidate of Finnish citizens residing in other countries is determined under the legislation of each country.
