Schedule for the 2022 county elections

The first county elections will be held on Sunday 23 January 2022. Accordingly, the other important dates for the elections are as follows:

• The campaign period under the Act on a Candidate’s Election Funding begins: 23 July 2021
• The date for determining the number of members to be elected to each county council based on the population of the wellbeing services county: 31 August 2021
• The date for collecting data for the voting register (determining the wellbeing services county in which each person has the right to vote): 3 December 2021
• Submission of candidate applications to the county election boards: by 16.00 on 14 December 2021
• The county election boards confirm the nomination of candidates (including candidate numbers): 23 December 2021
• The voting register becomes legally valid: 11 January 2022
• Registration for at-home voting ends: 11 January 2022 at 16.00
• The advance voting period in Finland: 12–18 January 2022
• The advance voting period abroad: 12–15 January 2022
• The county election boards confirm the results of the county elections: 26 January 2022 
• The county councils begin their work: 1 March 2022.
